There were some tough spots along the way of making this movie hit the big screen. The movie was stuck in development hell for years, starting in 2009 when Blessy said he wanted to make a movie based on the book he had read in 2008. Prithviraj was cast the same year, but budget constraints hindered significant progress. It wasn’t until 2015 that Blessy secured a producer, allowing the project to gain momentum. Notable personalities like Jimmy Jean-Louis and Steven Adams joined as producers alongside Blessy, with the musical genius A. R. Rahman composing the original score and songs.
The ambitious project’s primary filming took place in six schedules in the deserts of Wadi Rum, Jordan, and the Sahara, Algeria, from March 2018 to July 2022. This movie also had some scenes shot in Kerala, India. The crew did face a unique challenge, though, when the COVID-19 pandemic forced them to stay in the Jordan desert for 70 days, from March to May 2020. In the end, they were sent back to India through the Vande Bharat Mission, the Indian government’s evacuation programme. On July 14, 2022, filming for the 3D movie was successfully closed.
